Armstrong Celebrates Black History Month With Several Events

(Feb. 14, 2014) — Armstrong's annual Black History Month Celebration features lively celebrations, informative discussions and high-energy live performances throughout February.

“There's truly something for everyone,” says Office of Multicultural Affairs director Nashia C. Whittenburg. “It's important for us to celebrate the different cultures that represent our student population at Armstrong.”

The 2014 Black Heritage Month Celebration schedule at Armstrong is as follows:

FEBRUARY 13, 7-10 p.m.
Café 1965: Night of Artistic Expression

Ogeechee Theatre
The NAACP presents an artistic fusion of the arts in a celebration of the Civil Rights Movement. Poets, artists and musicians are welcome to showcase their talents at Armstrong's “café.”

Collegiate 100 Third Annual Winter Ball

Student Union Ballroom
Celebrate Black History Month with the award-winning Armstrong Collegiate 100 Chapter.

FEBRUARY 17, 10 a.m.-noon
Black Women's Empowerment Discussion: Our Natural Hair

Union Ballroom C
Join local natural hair care stylist and proprietor of Upscale Salon Lacey Singleton for a natural hair care discussion and demonstration as a part of Black Women's Empowerment Day.

Black Women's Empowerment Gala and Spoken Word Event

Celebrate the culmination of the Inaugural Black Women's Empowerment Day with keynote speaker Tina Gaye Bernie Bernard. Spoken word artists and musicians are welcome to perform.
