Armstrong Hires Nick Shrader as Director of Housing and Residence Life

(May 22, 2014) — Armstrong Atlantic State University recently hired Nick Shrader as the director of housing and residence life. In his new position, Shrader is responsible for the department's overall operations, strategic planning, educational and programmatic initiatives, and the creation of engaging living and learning communities for all residents.

Before joining Armstrong, Shrader worked as the director of residence life and housing and judicial coordinator for student affairs at Columbia College in Columbia, S.C. He is the former assistant director of university housing at the University of South Carolina Aiken in Aiken, S.C. and has been involved with student affairs on college campuses since 1997, when he served as the student center building manager at Radford University in Radford, Va.

During the course of his career, he also served as hall director, residence life coordinator and interim assistant director of residence life at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. and as a residence hall director at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tex. Dedicated to housing and campus life, Shrader has experience in student staff recruitment and training from his tenure at Southern Methodist University.

As part of his commitment to student housing, Shrader has given multiple presentations at venues ranging from graduate assistant training on campus to nationwide conferences. He has attended various conferences, including the American College Personnel Association and the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers.

Shrader is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. He also has a Master of Education in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina and a B.S. in Psychology from Radford University.

He is a member of the Phi Sigma Pi honor fraternity and the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society for leadership. In 1998, he received the Radford University Outstanding Student Award.
