Inaugural Mark Finlay Memorial Lecture Featuring Acclaimed Musician and Environmentalist
(April 20, 2015) — Award-winning pianist, author and conservationist Chuck Leavell will deliver the first of a series of lectures in memory of the late Armstrong history professor Dr. Mark Finlay, focusing on the importance of environmental stewardship.
Leavell, the author of Forever Green: The History and Hope of the American Forest and Growing a Better America: Smart, Strong and Sustainable, will discuss the importance of promoting responsible stewardship of natural resources through strategic collaboration. He will also perform a few songs from his tour with the Rolling Stones at the end of his talk.
Leavell, who is currently playing keyboards with the Rolling Stones, is well known for his musical contributions. Over the years, he has peformed with artists including Eric Clapton, the Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, George Harrison, The Indigo Girls and Blues Traveler, in addition to building his own successful solo career.
