Now Collecting Donations for Third Annual Clothing Closet Event

(October 2, 2014) — The Office of Career Services at Armstrong State University is now collecting gently used, professional clothing, shoes and accessories for the Third Annual Clothing Closet to be held on February 18 and 19, 2015.

The Clothing Closet is a community-wide professional clothing drive that seeks donations of gently used professional attire and provides Armstrong students with the opportunity to receive one free professional outfit to prepare for interviews, internships and jobs.

Armstrong is seeking the donation of button-down shirts, men's and women's suits, skirts, slacks, blouses, shoes and accessories. Individuals may donate clothing to the Clothing Closet donation box located outside of the Alumni Office in Burnett Hall, 11935 Abercorn St.

Businesses are encouraged to contact the Office of Career Services at 912.344.2563 to receive their own donation box or to make other types of donations such as hangers, racks, and dry cleaning services. All donations are tax-deductible.

“The Clothing Closet is very important to our students because it assists them in putting together their personal brand,” said Director of Career Services George Lantzounis. “Because of this event, our students can walk into any interview knowing that they have a top-notch education, and a professional look that complements their qualifications.”

The Clothing Closet initiative started back in 2012 with just a single suit from Armstrong President Dr. Linda Bleicken, who felt that students could really benefit from the donation of often-pricey professional attire.

The event has grown significantly over the past three years. In 2014, more than 1,300 pieces of clothing and accessories were collected and more than 250 students were served.
