University Chief of Police Honored by IACLEA
(July 7, 2015) — The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) recently presented Armstrong State University's Chief of Police Wayne R. Willcox with the 2015 Award for Administrative Excellence.
Willcox, who also serves as the director of the university's Cyber Security Research Institute, was officially recognized in a special ceremony held during the IACLEA annual conference in Nashville, Tenn. on June 30. The Award for Administrative Excellence is presented to an IACLEA member or employee of an IACLEA member campus public safety, police or security department for outstanding service in areas such as policy and planning, investigations and crime prevention. New and innovative ideas, cost savings, enhanced administrative techniques and management ideas are some of the elements considered for award selection.
Originally from Piqua, Ohio, Willcox joined Armstrong in 2009. He previously worked at the Piqua Police Department in Piqua, Ohio for 37 years, retiring as Chief of Police prior to joining Armstrong.
Over the years, Willcox has won numerous awards including the 2015 Federal 100 Award for his contribution to the federal information technology community, the 2014 Dr. Curtis McClung/Motorola Award of Excellence from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, the 2013 Governor's Public Safety Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Public Safety Profession, Spirit of Armstrong Award, the Ohio Behavioral Health Association Award for Innovative Leadership, an Ohio Senate Commendation for Outstanding Achievement, a Commendation for Community Service from the Ohio governor and the Bill Fox Community Service Award.
A Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE), Willcox is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University's School of Police Staff and Command, The Police Executive Leadership College and The Edison Leadership Institute. He has an M.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Tiffin University and a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Findlay.
