University Hires Joanne Landers as Director of Admissions

(Feb. 20, 2015) — Armstrong State University recently hired Joanne Landers as the new director of admissions. She brings more than 14 years of experience in enrollment and recruitment management at a range of institutions of higher education to her new position and is responsible for the strategy, execution and management of the university's admissions and recruitment process.

Before joining Armstrong, Landers served as the director of admissions for the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. In that role, she oversaw all undergraduate admissions, managed the departmental budget and evaluated the effectiveness of all of practices in accordance with the National Association for College Admission Counseling. She also worked closely with the marketing department and developed recruitment strategies for the college.

Prior to her tenure at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Landers worked as the associate director of financial aid at Chancellor University in Seven Hills, Ohio, where she monitored standards of academic progress, counseled students on federal loan opportunities and trained staff about financial aid policies. She was also an active member of the university's Retention Planning and First-Year Experience committees and served as an admissions advisor.

Earlier in her career, she served as the assistant director of admissions at the University of Akron, where she was responsible for recruitment in 10 counties in Ohio and created a multicultural recruitment plan. She also worked as the associate product manager in the student loan division of Key Bank, providing executive team members with new student loan product development information in addition to training about Department of Education changes affecting federal loans.

Landers earned an M.A. in Education from the University of Akron, a B.A. in Political Science from Miami University of Ohio and a Noel-Levitz Enrollment Management Certificate. She is currently completing a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Leadership in Higher Education from Capella University.
