Back-to-Back Dual National Champs!

It was awesome the first time around. In May 2008 the Pirates Men's and Women's Tennis squads got off a plane from Texas with dual NCAA national trophies. A crowd of supporters waving banners, chanting "Go Pirates," and sporting Pirates maroon and gold, cheered the players as they entered the main area of the Savannah/Hilton Head airport. The AASU Pirates had captured two national titles.

A year later, the Pirates have done it again. On a rainy Sunday afternoon in mid May 2009, the Pirates arrived on campus from Central Florida with another pair of dual national trophies in hand.

Both teams have now won back-to-back national championships, a feat only accomplished one other time in college tennis history. Congratulations Pirates!

For head coach Simon Earnshaw and assistant coach David Secker, there's one question that is not allowed to be asked, at least not yet: Three-peat?
