Welcome Class of 2019! Armstrong welcomes more than 700 new students to campus.
Armstrong State University welcomed more than 700 students during its First-Year Student Convocation on Friday, August 14.
The colorful festivities began in the Alumni Arena as Armstrong’s first-year students explored student organizations prior to gathering for a pep rally to kick off the day.
Students then followed behind the official class of 2019 flag in a processional from Alumni Arena to Fine Arts Hall. Faculty from all four colleges dressed in graduation regalia and lined Science Drive to rally the students on as they made their way into the ceremony.
“You are part of our family now,” said Armstrong President Dr. Linda M. Bleicken as she addressed the crowd of incoming students. “We are looking forward to a journey with you.”
Other inspirational speeches were delivered by Provost Robert T. Smith, Faculty Senate President Dr. Elizabeth Desnoyers-Colas, Student Government President Matthias Downs and Armstrong alumnus, Somi Benson-Jaja. Following, each student received a commemorative gold doubloon stamped with the date and “Class of 2019.”
The journey has only begun for Armstrong’s class of 2019. Go Pirates!
