Ms. Jolene Byrne earned her Bachelor of English from Armstrong in 2005. She continued her education, receiving a Master of Social Sciences from Georgia Southern University in 2012. Ms. Byrne spent one year as a long-term substitute at Coastal Comprehensive Academy, a public school for children with severe emotional and behavioral disorders, before becoming an English teacher at Groves High School.

Currently, she is a part-time instructor of sociology at Armstrong. Ms. Byrne was honored by Savannah Technical College as a 2014 Community Star for her commitment to community service and her contributions to public education. Her service to the community includes tutoring students at the West Broad YMCA and organizing children’s health awareness events as a volunteer for the Junior League of Savannah. She is also a member of the board at the Matthew Reardon Center and the Disciplinary Action Committee of the Savannah Classical Academy. Among other things, she and her six-year-old son are also regular volunteers at the Inner City Night Shelter.

Ms. Byrne has recently been elected to serve as the Savannah Chatham County School Board President, and has made it her mission to bring all parties together to ensure that every child in our community has the opportunity to receive the finest education.
