Mr. Raymond Ellis, Jr. is a 1989 graduate of Armstrong and a native of Savannah, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Since graduation, Mr. Ellis has been a mainstay in the fine arts community in and around Savannah.

Since 2001, he has been the music and drama instructor at South Effingham High School in Guyton, Georgia. In 2013, Ellis was selected as the 2012-2013 South Effingham High School Teacher of the Year.

Under the guidance of his mentor, Dr. Robert Harris, Ellis became the music director at a local church during his sophomore year of college. Since then, he has served as pianist and/or music director at various Savannah-area churches, including Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, where he currently serves. At Asbury Memorial, Mr. Ellis has been instrumental in growing the music program which now includes a 50+ member adult choir and a four-octave handbell choir.

Mr. Ellis also developed a love of theater during his years at Armstrong and has been very active in the local community theater for the past 30 years. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Asbury Memorial Theater, and was recently selected to play the part of “Bellamy” in the upcoming production of The Fantasticks.
